LearningCurve Zone

2011 Seminar Highlights, Campfires, Lightning Learning Labs

The LearningCurve Zone, sponsored by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) will showcase the best education and training for the meetings industry, recognizing the importance of raising standards and developing personal and professional skills. Short drop-in workshops, campfires and lightning learning labs will run throughout the day on the booth – for both buyers and exhibitors.
Attendees will also be able to view all the educational opportunities available to the meetings industry in one place. LearningCurve Zone exhibitors will be on hand to offer their expertise and advice in one to one sessions and group seminars, giving delegates the chance to discuss how to drive their business forward with the most innovative and forward thinking experts in the industry.

2011 Seminar Highlights

Some of the seminars that took place on the LearningCurve Zone at IMEX America 2011 included:

'What Do I What to Do With My Life? Everything!' - Tyra W. Hilliard, PhD, JD, CMP, Associate Professor, University of Alabama.

Are you one of those people who spend a lot of your time wondering “What’s next? What’s next in my career? What’s next in my life?" If so, you aren’t alone. Many people never settle into a single “career” but instead parlay their unique interests, skills, experiences, and strengths into a career tapestry unique to each and every person. The “career path” is no longer a path. And if you are still climbing the corporate ladder, you may find there’s nothing at the top. Moves that didn’t seem possible 20 years ago are the norm today. With flex-jobs, virtual positions, and a global workforce, the work environment is far different than it was even a few years ago.

Mobile technologies are revolutionizing the way business travelers work and play. Mobile agendas and personalized schedules, social networking, rich media, location-based services, RFID, QR codes and a plethora of other cutting-edge mobile technologies have created a confusing ecosystem. From device and tablet apps to native apps or online, this workshop will help you understand and navigate the complex world of the mobile solutions of today and a glimpse into the future.

For 10 years, Traci has dedicated her career to assisting athletes, businesses, teams and individuals in achieving desired goals and enhancing performance by turning to the power within. Your clients are always communicating with you. Do you know what they’re saying? You are always communicating with your clients. Do you know what message you’re sending? Can you tailor your body language to fill unconscious needs so that you can reach agreement and hear ‘Yes!’ more easily and more often? This seminar will teach you how!

Campfires

Smaller more intimate sessions for up to 12 people will run every day on the LearningCurve Zone, called campfires. The campfires will address hot topics ranging from personal development and cultural profiling to social media and will be led by industry experts.

"The ‘campfire’ concept is excellent, with the small group format ensuring that everyone engages properly to get best value from the discussion."
Julie Peden, Director, Meetings and Events, MCI Toronto, Canada

Lightning Learning Labs

‘Lightning Learning Lab’ sessions on the LearningCurve Zone are tailored especially for exhibitors. Each session lasts for approximately 20 minutes to allow exhibitors to take advantage of valuable education in between appointments on the show floor. In 2011 the ‘Labs’ included insightful research findings from SPIN (Senior-level Planners Industry Network) including how to deliver winning site inspections and fam trips, trade show dos and don’ts and a session on building relationships with planners. Bob Prewitt, President of Dana Communications, IMEX America's US marketing agency led a session on ‘Marketing Meetings in the Interactive Age’.
